The Maldives - Week 1 of Travelling 'The Weekly Wrap'

Day 1

After 21 hours of travel we were pumped to land in Male the Capital of the Maldives!

The airport itself was bigger than I imagined and what I thought would be a long drawn out customs was actually super fast and easy, no questions, no showing documents, just straight though. I think their online arrival cards where you download all of your documentation before you arrive helped this process, and I must say, I hope all countries are this organised.

We quickly worked out the currency and found a money exchange, bartered a boat to Maafushi Island all within about 5 minutes so that was great. The transfers cost us $20USD each and the journey about 25mintues in total.

We were greeted by a luggage cart, where the porter for our hotel took our 6 heavy suitcase to our hotel, while we strolled round.

That's when things got interesting.

After checking in and waiting for our room, we were told that the hotel was not quite finished yet and the infinity roof top pool would not be finished for the entire week.

This for me was a deal breaker, as I had purely chosen that hotel to have the pool and without it I was not interested in paying a premium fee. So after failed negotiations to convince me to stay, we decided to cancel our booking and rebook another property which would also offer a roof top pool.

Problem was we had to split our stay between two properties, which I was more than happy to do if it meant I could get my roof top infinity pool.

In the end it all worked out perfect and we loved both our hotels, probably even more and got great rates from just walking in! So winning!
