But never fear, you can easily visit several of these highlights in just the one day.....OR you can even camp overnight [More info: Litchfield National Park - NT.GOV.AU]

Once you've visited you can easily see why Litchfield National Park is one of Northern Territory's most popular day trips.

Litchfield National Park Litchfield National Park - Google Maps is approximately two hours drive, south of Darwin.

You will travel via the Stuart Highway, via the township, Batchelor.

It a good idea to check road conditions, as many of the 4WD tracks close during the wet season which is November to March.

You can travel to Litchfield National Park by 2WD, however if you have a 4WD you will have additional options of Waterfalls and Lagoons available to you as well as fun 4WD tracks to make the ride even more enjoyable!

It is also important to check which falls, watering holes and tracks are open, as they do Open and Close throughout the Wet and Dry season.

Our personal favourites:-

1. Surprise Creek Falls (4WD Access) This area is one of the more remote falls and waterholes, which is also why you may end up having the place to yourself like we did. It is a series of 3 large bodies of water flowing down into the bottom large lagoon. It is great to climb the rocks and adventure.

2. Florence Falls (2WD Access) These are the first falls you have access to and they are accessible by 2WD. The walk in (although short) has quite a number of stairs, however it is a beautiful walk and well worth it. There are look out platforms to admire the falls from above and once you're down the bottom the falls are spectacular, you can literally swim to the edge of the falls and sit underneath them. TIP: Arrive early as these falls get BUSY

3. Wangi Falls (2WD Access) This area is great to time in with a lunch stop or picnic. There are parklands, shade and tables and chairs easily accessible to the carpark and the falls are right there, no big long walk. There is also easy access with ramps and steps into the watering hole and is one of the biggest of the falls.

4. Sandy Creek (4WD Access) You will find these spectacular falls down a 4WD track and after a 1.4km walk. And they are well worth it. crytal clear water, falls that you can swim under, and in a beautiful huge canyon. TIP: avoid the heat of the middle of the day as it is a hike
