20 Tips I wish I knew before my Cruise!

Ahoy 🛳️ Mateys!

Ready to set sail on the high seas?

Before you do, let me share with you 21 tips for cruising that I wish I knew before my cruise!

From packing smart to making the most of your time onboard, these cruising tips will make your voyage a smooth sailing experience.

So, let's get ready to hit the open waters!

20 TIPS for Cruising:

  1. Purchase a lanyard before your cruise to get a better price and more selection.

  2. Bring an empty bottle and refill it instead of buying bottled water. This will help to save money, while still avoiding tap water.

  3. Bring along your own travel coffee mug. Perfect for grabbing a coffee to-go.

  4. DOWNLOAD the app before you leave shore, you can communicate with anyone on board, even if you do not have the WIFI packages

  5. By downloading the App you can also keep up to date with what's on and create a daily schedule with reminders.

  6. (Royal Caribbean) Wait to book your drinks package / internet package when they are on-sale. From time to time, they will reduce their on-board packages by up to 40%.

  7. Pre-purchase any drink packages, internet or photo packages at least 5 days before you leave, or the price will go up once onboard and will cut off a few days prior to sailing!

  8. Pack enough for Day 1 into a small bag, including clothes, swimsuits, and toiletries, to cover you in case your luggage is delayed.

  9. Bring a carryon bag so that on the last day, you can pack your essentials into it for the night before check-out.

  10. Most ships you can take a certain amount of canned soft drinks, perfect if you are on a budget and cruising with kids.

  11. Bring a Multi USB plug or power board (check power type).

  12. Pre-Book your dinner times as soon as you board to avoid late or early time slots.

  13. Bring metal or bamboo straws if you don't like paper straws.

  14. Purchase sea sickness tablets from reception (PO Cruises) if the weather looks to be rough. The pharmacy's over the counter tablets may not provide the same strength.

  15. Checkout the theme nights prior to going and pack your fancy dress and get in on the FUN!

  16. Remember there is often a Laundry Room on board (so check if there is and take yourself some powder).

  17. Pack some Berocca, Hyrodlites, Vitamins to keep you hydrated and healthy on board.

  18. Take the stairs and not the lifts to help keep you fit.

  19. Checkout the Cruise times and block the activities you'd like to do in the App everyday.

  20. Checkout the day tours that are available to be booked 'off the ship' they are generally cheaper, (BUT be warned you may not get the early tender off and they may not guarantee your return time to the ship.)

  21. Even in summer pack a light jumper / cardigan as the sea breeze on top deck and the air-conditioning can get cool.

Please note: The above may not be the case for every Cruiseline, please ensure you check what is appropriate for your individual cruiseline and ship before departing.

Happy Cruising!
